Aqiqah in direct translation would mean to cut. In Islam, Aqiqah refers to the sacrifice of an animal preferably goat/sheep on the birth of a child. There are many benefits on doing this Aqiqah and most of them only God knows best. But some of the benefit such as, close to God since doing Aqiqah is a form of a worship, some sort of a penance to protect the child from any danger and misfortune, showing grateful to God for His blessing by giving a child to the family, bringing family, friends and everyone closer through the thanksgiving feast and to obtain reward from God in the hereafter.
Well to be simple, it is a celebration on the arrival of a child in the family. So basically we celebrate it by sacrificing goat/sheep for the thanksgiving feast where all your family, relatives, neighbors and friends attended. 2 goat/sheep for 1 baby boy and a goat/sheep for 1 baby girl. So we all get together and feasting and celebrating on the birth of the child.
That is why i've been so busy these past 2 weeks. Me and my mother has been going around all over the place even go as far as crossing the state border (only 2 1/2 hrs drive) to find some stuff for the event. I know, you ask why we far to just find some goodie bags? Because everything here at my place (its a very very small town) is all crap. I swear all these stuff looks so boring, same and cheap. And when i say cheap i meant the decoration sucks like it costs $7 for a very small cup which have been decorated nicely (according to them) but the decoration looks so cheap like all the materials were bought at the reject shop. And i can't believe people actually buy these stuff. But anyways, we finally got everything we wanted (most of them). Still need to buy some wrapping papers and ribbon to tie the boxes. And believe me, it's even hard to find a decent plain looking wrapping paper here.
So when we have everything we wanted, the hard work finally starts. It wont be easy. Knowing my mum who is a perfectionist and fussy, I need to work on making the goodie bags and door gifts nice and tidy. In one word perfect. This is gonna be a very long, long, long......day. Even though i'm looking forward on this event which is celebrating the birth of my brother's baby boy called Rayyan and my sister's baby girl named Balqis, i'm not really looking forward on the making all that stuff. It would be tiring since i'll be the only one making it. Where's my mum you would ask? She would be the one directing my every moves and actions.
Like my mum always said, ' As a mother, I can get away with anything because I'm your mother'.
p/s: I will keep everyone up to date on this event. and if anyone want's to know more about Aqiqah, go to this website: http://www.korbanaqiqah.com.my/portal/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=12&Itemid=12
